Ronay Balkan

Ronay Balkan is currently a Max Weber Postdoctoral Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence, and an incoming Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Fordham University starting in Fall 2026.
Her research interests include political violence, urban politics, and critical methodologies. She uses ethnographic methods to explore spatialities of everyday warfare with a focus on the Kurdish politics within South West Asia and North Africa.
She received her PhD in the Department of Political Science at Johns Hopkins University. Previously, she obtained her BA and MA degrees in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Bogazici University, Turkey. In addition, she was a Visiting Researcher as a part of the International Fox Fellowship at Yale University for 2018-2019.
