Visual Politics Research Program

New Visual Politics Event Program to be held in Stockholm next Semester

‍Please click here for a preliminary announcement about our Visual Politics Research Program events for the second semester of 2026. While still a couple of months away, please click the links for more details and dates. All events will be held at the Swedish Defence University in Stockholm and will be both in-person and online.

We are thrilled to be able to welcome several wonderful scholars to discuss recent books and ongoing research.

  • Linus Hagström, Christine Agius and Alexandra Brankova from the Swedish Defence University will discuss a joint project on narrative power politics.

  • Jelena Subotić from Georgia State University will discuss her fascinating new OUP book The Art of Status: Looted Treasures and the Global Politics of Restitution.

As part of a broader two-day workshop for Ph.D. students and early career researchers, Leena Vastapuu (Tampere Peace Research Institute), Annick Wibben (Swedish Defence University) and Linda Åhäll (University of Gothenburg) will debate creative methods in feminist security studies in the context of their research project on narrating militarism.

Finally, in December, Lene Hansen from the University of Copenhagen will give the Second Annual Emma Hutchison Memorial Lecture on Images, Emotions and International Security.

The timing will make it difficult for regular participants in Australasia but, in turn, easier if you want to tune in from other parts of the world.  A zoom link will be sent around closer to the first event, but you can find more information here, including registration.
